Over the next few weeks you will develop a virtual binder that you will be able to use for future reference in the early childhood classroom. The binder will include important assessment-related information and a collection of resources, tools, and strategies for assessing young children in early childhood settings. Everything you add to this binder should be related to early childhood or birth through 3rd grade.

The purpose of this binder is to help you understand the multiple methods of assessment in early childhood education and how to use assessment to guide decision making.

Complete the following steps to get started:

1. Visit the Technology Resource Library on College of Education Central.

2. Click Web Tools in the Table of Contents.

3. Click Collaboration & Productivity.

4. Locate Live binders and set up an account.

Note: Make sure to mark the account as public so your instructor can view the content.

Organize your binder and create tabs in a user-friendly way to ensure that information is easily accessible.

Complete the following for Section 1:

• Describe the principles of assessment for young children.

• Explain the components or elements of an assessment system for infants and toddlers, preschool, and school-age children.

• Outline the implementation of an effective assessment process for school-age children.

• Describe the types and purposes of standardized tests used with infants and young children.

• Explain the difference between test reliability and test validity, including the factors that affect each.

• Compare the uses of norm-referenced and criterion-referenced tests with infants and young children.

• Explain the interpretation and reporting of standardized test results.

Include an APA-formatted reference page in your binder.
