CMGT 557 Wk 6 Discussion - Evaluating Emerging Technology

Post a total of 3 substantive responses over 2 separate days for full participation. This includes your initial post and 2 replies to classmates or your faculty member. 

Background:  You have recently been hired by a progressive company. You are in a new IT leadership position. You were hired to start a new department that is focused on innovation with a focus on emerging technology.

First, select the industry that your company is within: aviation, agriculture, automotive, banking, energy, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, oil and gas, or transportation. I recommend that you use the industry that you selected in week 5.

One substantive initial post response is due on Thursday. The post must be a minimum of 175 words and address the following: 

Your company works in the industry that you selected. As the IT leader who is starting a new innovation department that is focused on emerging technologies, please elaborate on the following:

• Describe the industry.

• Where is the industry is in relation to digital transformation?

• What would be the initial scope of the innovation department? Why?

• If you could only hire 3 staff members, what skillset would you target for each of the 3 positions? Why?

• How would your innovation department research and evaluate emerging technologies?

In your initial response, please utilize at least one reference from an academic and/or trade journal (in-text citations and reference list) and be mindful of proper spelling, grammar, and scholarly tone.

Two substantive replies (Due Monday): In your responses to your peers, address any thoughts you have on the advantages of cloud computing, how it can benefit a business, and/or provide practical real-world examples.
